Agate, also called banded chalcedony, is a mineral belonging to the quartz family - sharing the hardness of 7. Agates were first recorded and named in Italy from the river Achetes in Sicily. They were used by many civilizations including Neolithic people & Egyptians, as early as 3,000 BC. Flower Agate is a type of Agate with opaque Chalcedony inclusions that resemble tiny floral formations.
This gorgeous flower agate can be displayed on end with its flat edge, or you can use it as a charging plate. It is from Madagascar where it was polished, I love that the inside you can see its sparkly and bubbly growths. It measures about 5 x 4 x .5 inches.
