Agate, also called banded chalcedony, is a mineral belonging to the quartz family - sharing the hardness of 7. Agates were first recorded and named in Italy from the river Achetes in Sicily. They were used by many civilizations including Neolithic people & Egyptians, as early as 3,000 BC. They have also been used in jewelry in ancient India, and Germany from 15th-19th century. Crystal healers believe that agates help stabilize + harmonize energy.
These natural agate pieces are ethically sourced from Brazil where they were mined, cut and polished into this shape with sides and back left unpolished. This one weighs 2lbs 11 oz and measures about 5 x 4.5 x 3 inches. It has a polka dotted sparkly center and a gorgeous light blue ringed polished face. As you can tell from the last photo, it glows when the light hits it.
