Opals are hydrated amorphous form of silica. They are classified as mineraloid, unlike crystalline forms of silica, which are classed as minerals. They have high water content, usually between 3-10%. The name Opal comes from the Greek word opallios, meaning to see a change of color. Energetically, Opal is thought to be a great stone for balancing chakras (energy centers in the body) and said to enhance creativity.
These are natural opals from Ethiopia, handmade into earrings in India. Each stone is incredibly unique, not only in shape but also in flash. I have tried to take photos of several different pairs to show off how they vary. They are prong set in 925 Sterling Silver.
