Pietersite was first reported in 1962 by Sid Pieters, who discovered it in Namibia while prospecting farmland. It is sometimes called Blue Tiger Eye, as it is very similar with crocidolite giving it chatoyancy. However, Pietersite differs not only in color but also in formation, it has swirly + chaotic chatoyancy vs. tiger eye's stripes. It is a brecciated stone, coming from the root word “Breccia” refers to any rock which is composed of the broken fragments of other rocks that have been melded together. It has Italian origins meaning “loose gravel.” With Pietersite, the brecciated pieces have been melded together by quartz. Energetically, it is believed that Pietersite is connected to the solar plexus and throat chakras. With it's stormy appearance, some say that it can help calm chaotic energy like a calm after the storm.
