Opals are hydrated amorphous form of silica. They are classified as mineraloid, unlike crystalline forms of silica, which are classed as minerals. They have high water content, usually between 3-10%. The name Opal comes from the Greek word opallios, meaning to see a change of color. Energetically, Opal is thought to be a great stone for balancing chakras (energy centers in the body) and said to enhance creativity.
The opal beads in this bracelet were purchased from a small jewelry maker in India, where they were hand cut & made one stone at a time. The stones are from Ethiopia. The beads range in size from 3-5mm, the bracelet measures 6 3/4 inches with a 1 inch extender ( 7 3/4 inches total)
